TWO IN FLAT COPPER

A "two in flat copper cable" refers to a twin flat copper cable. This common type of electrical cable contains two individual copper wires (cores) encased in a single, flat layer of PVC insulation. In many regions, the same basic design with an added earth wire is known as "twin and earth".

Structure and variants

The construction of this cable allows for flexibility and easy installation in a variety of settings.

Two insulated conductors :

The two copper cores are individually insulated, and are typically used for the live and neutral wires in a single-phase connection.

Single flat outer sheath :

A final PVC layer binds the insulated cores together in a flat, parallel configuration. This shape makes it ideal for running along walls or under carpets.

Optional earth wire :

In many places, the standard domestic variant is a "twin and earth" cable, which includes a third, uninsulated (or green-and-yellow-striped) copper wire for grounding.
